Roswell NM - Hotels & Tourism info for Roswell New Mexico
|
Photo opportunities abound! |
Roswell New Mexico is very easy to get around in, laid out very "N, S, E, W" style... The intersection of Hwy 285 North/South (aka Main Street) and Hwy 70 East/West (aka 2nd Street) divides the town neatly, with most of the popular tourist destinations, hotels and major restaurants located on North Main Street. Street numbers intersect much of North Main as well, so the higher the number, the further North you are (IE, towards Wal-Mart & The Roswell Mall, entering the town from HWY 285 from I-40 and Albuquerque).
BUT WHAT ELSE MIGHT YOU
WANT TO SEE AND DO WHILE VISITING ROSWELL NM? You will of course find many more touristy UFO & Alien related shops just South, just East, and for several blocks North of the UFO Museum. The favorite "best kept secret" (because it's not on Main Street) is the Anderson Museum of Contemporary Art. From Main Street, turn East on College St (there's a light at Farley's Fun Food and Pub, between 11th Street and The New Mexico Military Academy then turn left into their parking lot just after crossing the railroad tracks. This is something you'd expect to see in New York, Los Angeles, or perhaps Santa Fe. Also on Main Street and 9th-11th Streets you'll definitely notice the Roswell Convention Center. Just North and seemingly adjoining the complex is Roswell Museum and Art Center, which also houses the Robert Goddard planetarium. Kind of Caddy-Corner across the street from the UFO Museum (between N. 2nd & 3rd) there's Not of This World coffee house where you can check e-mail, eat a sandwich and get great coffee! One block further North is Pecos Flavors Winery, where you can buy wines and beers made right here in New Mexico (by the bottle or glass), and have aliens on the label. Both are walking distance from the UFO Museum. These two locations often have live music on Friday and/or Saturday nights as well, so inquire within and sit a spell!
